Dear Colleague,
Next Monday and Tuesday, in Tampa, the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission will interview 18 applicants for a vacancy on the State's highest court. The roster of candidates is excellent and the citizens of Florida should be confident about the quality of current applicants.
Because seven of the 18 candidates are from Miami, however, I feel a special responsibility as DCBA President to express and invite total support for our local candidates. Specifically, I urge our legal community to voice its support for our own local judges and practitioners. Miami is one of the most diverse metropolises in the nation and it is appropriate that the state judiciary reflect a committment to diversity by drawing from the rich variation in viewpoints, talents, and backgrounds that are the hallmarks of the bench and bar here in Miami.
The candidates are listed alphabetically as follows:
Perry Adair
Judge Kevin Emas
H. Scott Fingerhut
Judge Gill Freeman
Edward G. Guedes
Frank R. Jimenez
Judge Leslie Rothenberg
Each of us has an important role to play in shaping a fair and impartial judiciary. Now is the time for action.
Good luck to each of the candidates.
Sincerely,
Timothy M. Ravich
President, Dade County Bar Association
