Student Registration Form DADE COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION/YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION
MINORITY BAR PASSAGE PROGRAM
2008 SUPPLEMENTAL BAR REVIEW COURSE
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Dade County Bar Association/Young Lawyers Section (DCBA/YLS) Minority Bar Passage Program is dedicated to increasing the number of minority law school graduates who pass the Florida Bar examination. This program provides assistance and support to any graduate of the University of Miami, St. Thomas University, Nova Southeastern University, Florida International University, or any other ABA accredited law school who has registered to take the February or July Florida Bar examination. Although the program’s goals are to assist minority law school graduates, it is open to all law school graduates, regardless of race or ethnic origin. This program is available to first-time and repeat test takers.
The program focuses on providing assistance and feedback to improve writing skills on the essay portion of the bar examination. The program consists of a series of weekly mock examination, lectures, small group discussions, individual mentoring and evaluation of students’ essays. It will also provide guidance concerning effective test taking skills and mental preparedness for the bar exam. The program will not provide a review of substantive law, but is only designed to supplement commercial bar review courses. Volunteering to serve as tutors and speakers for the program are members of the Dade County Bar Association and other attorneys who are members of other bar associations. BARBRI has also assisted this program by providing testing materials and other valuable support.
