Legal Aid Society & Office of Public Service:

The Legal Aid Society is fully staff, free legal service provider for the indigent in Dade County. Legal Aid was established by 1939 and chartered in 1949. It is the oldest provider of free legal services in Dade County and is has eleven full-time lawyers who handle primarily family matters which involve children.

The Office of Public Service administers all DCBA pro bono projects, including "Put Something Back", the joint pro bono project of the 11th Judicial Circuit and the Dade County Bar Association and was established in 1991 pursuant to the order of the Florida Supreme Court mandating pro bono programs for all circuits in Florida. "Put Something Back" is the successor of the DCBA "Public Interest Law Bank" established in 1981 which later became the DCBA "Volunteer Lawyers Program". "PSB" recruits and trains private lawyers who are assigned cases through the service. Presently over 7,000 Dade Lawyers are members of the program and since establishment of the joint project, over 30,000 clients have been served.
