YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION COMMITTEES   

 
COMMITTEE PREFERENCE FORM


 

MEMBERSHIP SERVICE

CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION:
Sponsors CLE programs presented by experts in their field on key topics for attorneys.

JUDICIAL OUTREACH:
Works to increase access and communication between young lawyers and judges in the community.  The primary responsibility is to plan and implement the highly successful “Lunch with the Judges” program.

PROFESSIONALISM/MEMBERSHIP SERVICES:
Plans professionalism and ethics seminars and implements mentoring programs for members.

SOCIAL:
Plans YLS social and cultural events, including Happy Hours, throughout the year. 

SPORTS:
Implements the popular Softball Tournament, Bowling Night, and other sports-related events.

 

PUBLIC SERVICE

PRO BONO & COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Implements and coordinates public service projects in local communities and law-related education programs.

HORIZONS (GIRLS):
Members serve as positive role models for underprivileged teenage girls to hone their skills and talents and determine possible career options. Summer internships will be secured for the girls.

HORIZONS (BOYS):
Members serve as positive role models for underprivileged teenage boys to hone their skills and talents and determine possible career options. Summer internships will be secured for the boys.

KIDS CLUB:
Plans monthly recreational and educational outings for local foster children and encourages bonding between the kids and the attorneys.

BAR PASSAGE PROJECT:
Assists local law students in their preparation for the essay portion of the Florida Bar Exam. Each law student is paired with a practicing attorney who acts as a tutor and mentor during the weeks leading up to the Exam.

SCHOOLS:
Implements programs with local schools, including the E-Mentoring Program and High School Mock Trial Competition.  The E-mentoring program provides high school students enrolled in a special law magnet program with individualized, academic motivational support via e-mail on a weekly basis.  The High School Mock Trial Competition plans and coordinates the February high school wide competition, including recruiting members to judge the competition.

HOMELESS OUTREACH
This Committee is still in its development stage. This would be a great opportunity to get involved at the ground level. Current plans are to work with a local homeless shelter.

INTREPID/VETERANS & ARMED FORCES 
This Committee is still in its development stage. This would be a great opportunity to get involved at the ground level.
