Each day, politically-charged headlines are broadcast on every news source in the country. People do not just receive the news; they are saturated with it. The saga surrounding the current administration has had a palpable effect on American citizens and, hence, jurors. Jurors no longer enter the courtroom under a binary title of Democrat/Republican or liberal/conservative. Today’s jurors (even those who do not fancy themselves political buffs) enter the courtroom with strong opinions and attitudes on the political issues that permeate jury trials – sexual assault and harassment, gun control, immigration, government oversight and regulation, civil rights, etc.

Join us for a panel discussion on how to approach jurors in today’s politically-charged environment. Learn how to go about unearthing jurors’ political viewpoints before and during trial. How to avoid empaneling jurors whose political attitudes will override the case facts and law. How to handle politically polarizing issues in opening statements and closing arguments, and throughout trial. And, how to address juror misconduct driven by political biases.
