Vice-President

Jane Muir - Candidate for Vice President

Jane Muir

I believe that the DCBA has the opportunity to speak for professionalism, to advance the Bench and Bar, and to support our members with meaningful services. I also believe that we owe our members a duty to use our resources wisely. Because of these beliefs, I have invested sustained effort for the last seven years to improve our services and operations, and I am seeking to continue my service to the Bar as Vice President.

Before being elected Treasurer last year and Secretary this year, I served on the Executive Committee five times. My contributions have included drafting a staff policy handbook, developing financial controls, auditing three years of financial statements, investing our savings in a diverse portfolio, and overhauling the Bulletin and the Lawyer Referral Service.

You can count on me to work to improve our organization’s service to our members and the community. Thank you for your vote.

John H. Ruiz - Candidate for Vice President

John Ruiz

John H. Ruiz is the founder of the MSP Recovery Law Firm, a top litigation firm, recognized nationally for its strength in managed care and class-action.  Ruiz is a Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney, with a 26-year record of success in class actions, MDL and other complex litigation, involving billions in judgements for hundreds of thousands of individuals.

In addition to sponsoring and participating in multiple DCBA events, Ruiz donates his time and resources to other bar associations, civic and charitable organizations including the March of Dimes and Guardian Ad Litem program. He also gave back to our community through 17 years of television outreach programs, providing free legal advice and services to the needy and elderly.

Ruiz received his J.D. at Nova Southeastern University and B.A. at the University of Miami. He and his wife of 26 years, Mayra, are proud parents of three UM Hurricanes.

Treasurer

Dolly Hernandez - Candidate for Treasurer

Dolly Hernandez

Dear Fellow DCBA Member,

I seek your support for Treasurer of the DCBA.  If elected, I pledge to ensure: (1) greater financial transparency; (2) substantive programming; and (3) the DCBA’s service to the legal, judicial, and broader community.

I am uniquely suited for Treasurer of the DCBA given my training in finance at the University of Miami, a matrimonial and family law practice where knowledge of financial concepts is key, and my involvement in the DCBA’s Budget Committee, Board of Directors (elected director), Family Court Committee (former Chair), and Executive Committee (elected member).

Outside the DCBA, my community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Miami & The Keys Chapter of the American Red Cross and as pro bono counsel through the Federal CARE Court program.  As Treasurer, I will work to provide financial details to our membership and safeguard the DCBA’s finances.

Sabrina Puglisi - Candidate for Treasurer

Sabrina Puglisi

I have dedicated over ten years of volunteer service with the DCBA. My involvement began as a Director of the Young Lawyer's Section (2005-2009). I transitioned to Director of the Association (2011-2014; 2016-present); and have been co-chair to the solo/small firm committee since 2011.

I am a board certified criminal defense attorney with my own firm, and past-president of the Miami chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

I am personally familiar with the history of this organization and where we currently stand. I have experienced the ups and downs and have seen what works and what doesn’t work.  I believe this organization needs to get back to focusing on programming that the members want and need.

I am honored by the support given by members of this community who have endorsed my bid for Treasurer.  Please see the Puglisi Law web site (opens in new window) for my list of endorsements. I appreciate your support.

I ask for your vote as director for DCBA Group 2 because I care deeply about the DCBA, its membership, and the local community.  I have met many of you at events or through our practices, and I know the importance and value you place on having a respected community of lawyers in the Dade County Bar.

I promise to use my experience in service and fundraising to ensure that the DCBA enriches your experiences as lawyers in the community through the resources we have available.  This includes instructive, original programming and community outreach.  I know how rewarding being a lawyer can be and I experience that daily representing plaintiffs in personal injury and medical malpractice matters at Freidin Brown, PA.
