The 2020 Dade County Bar Association Annual Bench and Bar

“The Next Decade in the Practice of Law”

Miami, FL – On March 6, 2020, the Dade County Bar Association will host its 10th Annual Bench and Bar Conference at the University of Miami’s Donna E. Shalala Student Center.

The Bench and Bar is the Dade County Bar Association’s annual seminar intended to showcase the best legal talent in South Florida and beyond, offering cutting-edge education while bringing members of the legal community together for business development and networking. The Conference offers 13 continuing legal education credits including, 1.5 credits in Ethics and Technology.

This year’s theme is “The Next Decade in the Practice of Law.” The keynote speaker, Michael Whelan, is the author of Lawyer Forward: Finding your Place in the Future of Law, a bestseller in the category of law practice management. “We are all looking forward to hearing from Michael Whelan and the insights he will impart about the practice of law in today’s world and the future,” says Sabrina Puglisi, Conference Chair and Vice-President of the DCBA. Mike Whelan is a veteran speaker and has presented at numerous schools and conferences around the country. In his book, he highlights the importance of unleashing your creativity to improve your brain. He will discuss problems that lawyers regularly face, how to access a global market, and give practical advice on how lawyers can succeed in the changing world. In 2018, the ABA Journal named Whelan’s Twitter account as one of the best of the year to follow.

The conference is the product of collaboration amongst the sixteen co-sponsoring voluntary bar organizations, several of which will present panels - The Cuban American Bar Association, Miami-Dade Florida Association for Women Lawyers, the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association, and the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Association “Thank you for joining us at another remarkable Bench and Bar — substance and content instead fluff and flare.  The DCBA has listened to you and we have brought you the program you desired.”.

The Dade County Bar Association is the oldest, and one of the largest, voluntary bar associations in Florida representing Miami-Dade County’s diverse legal community. In addition to providing its members with the education and tools to expand and enrich their legal practice, the DCBA helps citizens of Miami-Dade County find qualified lawyers, receive free legal assistance, and learn about their legal rights and responsibilities. The DCBA is headquartered in downtown Miami, steps from the historic Dade County Courthouse.
