YLS COMMITTEE PREFERENCE AND VOLUNTEER FORM
Get involved with the perennial award-winning Young Lawyers Section of the Dade County Bar Association by volunteering to serve on a committee or participate in a project in the coming year. Let the Young Lawyers Section know of your interest in participating in this year’s activities by indicating your committee preference below. A description of each committee is described on the reverse side of this form.
PREVIOUS COMMITTEE MEMBERS, PLEASE NOTE THAT ROSTERS ARE CLEARED EACH YEAR; IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE SAME COMMITTEE, PLEASE SIGN UP AGAIN.
CLE – Organizes engaging CLE programs presented by experts in their field on key topics benefitting young lawyers in various areas of the law, including programs designed to improve business development skills.
JUDICIAL OUTREACH– Works to increase access and communication between young lawyers and judges in the community through implementation of the highly successful “Lunch with the Judges” program.
FUNDRAISING – Coordinates and assists in fundraising efforts for the YLS Signature Events: Bids for Kids and the Judicial Reception. Fundraising committee members will be featured as hosts for these highly attended events.
SOCIAL – Plans social and cultural events, including networking events, happy hours, and member service programs designed to improve business development skills and build meaningful relationships, often with other community and professional organizations.
SPORTS – Implements the popular Softball Tournament in the Spring, and other sports-related events.
BAR PASSAGE PROGRAM – Assists local law students in their preparation for the essay portion of the Florida Bar Exam. Each law student is paired with a practicing attorney who acts as a tutor and mentor during the weeks leading up to the February and July Exams.
HORIZONS – Members serve as positive role models for underprivileged teenagers visiting colleges in the Fall and planning career preparations programs in the Spring, including resume workshops and mock interviews.
PRO BONO/COMMUNITY SERVICE – Implements and coordinates public service projects and legal education programs, including Law Day where attorneys provide pro bono legal advice to members of the community, and identifies meaningful pro bono opportunities for young lawyers.
SCHOOLS – Implements mock trial programs with local elementary and high schools and assists in recruiting DCBA members to judge the annual High School Mock Trial Competition in February.
